About VRelax
VRelax is a scientifically validated Virtual Reality app designed to support people dealing with mental and physical health challenges. It serves as an effective tool against stress, anxiety, depression and for distraction from physical discomfort or medical procedures. We’re a fast-moving team in Groningen working with healthcare and research partners, and our solution is already used by 250+ healthcare organizations making us the leading VR partner for mental health in the Netherlands.
About you
You’re a hands-on Unity engineer with a solid track-record shipping 3D / VR experiences. You care about performance, clean architecture, and turning therapeutic concepts into delightful interactions that help real people feel better. You collaborate deeply with researchers and fellow devs and you’re comfortable owning technical decisions.
- 3–5+ years professional experience in Unity (C#) for games, simulations, or VR, with a portfolio to match.
- Strong grasp of interactive 3D development and performance optimization for standalone VR.
- Comfortable with software design patterns, Git, and agile workflows (SCRUM).
- Solid understanding of game architecture; experience integrating web services is a plus.
- Collaborative, usability-focused mindset; fluent in English (Dutch is a plus).
- Nice-to-haves: XR Interaction Toolkit / OpenXR, shader & lighting know-how, physics / procedural gameplay, mobile / embedded optimization, multithreading, and a passion for health-tech.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and optimize VR interactions in Unity (C#).
- Translate therapeutic concepts with cross-functional teammates into engaging VR features.
- Ensure buttery-smooth performance on standalone devices (Meta Quest, Pico).
- Debug, profile, and improve code quality; create tools and scripts to streamline workflows.
- Contribute to code reviews, architecture, and technical best practices.
- Support bi-weekly release cycles that deliver high-quality updates to users.
